The initial 4 week chemo, that Rachana is in, is called the Induction phase, whose goal is the get her into remission i.e. no detectable leukemia. On day one they had pulled some bone marrow for cytogenetics testing. This report could have prompted a bone marrow transplant after the induction phase. The prognosis from this cytogenetics report is good, she does not have to go through a Bone Marrow Transplant immediately after remission. There is one more test called the FoundationOne which creates a genomic profile using that bone marrow, whose results are expected in a week. That result could still prompt a Bone Marrow Transplant to prevent a relapse, but that discussion is for another day. For now, Rachana is getting good at dodge ball – first the good news on the spinal column a few days ago and now this.
After the 2 units of blood last night Rachana was chirpy this morning. But the strong anti-nausea meds slowed her down. The intense hygiene routine, to prevent infections, wears her down too. I am repeating this everyday so here I go again – It was a good but tiresome day for Rachana. We saw 2 States movie today but did’t complete it yet. It was a perfect easy going movie without much hoopla or action.
